Boat building on the cape for me, building a boat is a lot like raising a child. you do the best job you can with the tools you have, and if you work diligently, everything works out.. In 1970 the only way i could afford a boat to cruise on the uk canal system was to build it myself. "york marinecraft" sold plans and selected timbers to build craft designed by percy blandford.. Many of the canal edges are unyielding and the combination is too much for any but the most massive of wooden structures. then think of the stresses on a narrow wooden boat with its bow lodged on a cill as the lock empties!.
We have the plans for the hull construction in, strip plank, plywood and steel. also note that we have now added details for the building jig, wood deck and superstructure plus rudder, engine/sterngear installation and a guidance fit-out.. You can build it on factory-built houseboat pontoons or build your own wooden pontoons. i think i prefer the barge style of hull construction because it keeps the whole boat lower to the water. this keeps it from being blown around as much as a taller boat.. 2 narrow boat canal barges, 15" long, 3.5" wide, freedom and ambush, a bit of work to do, rudder missing off one. small wood model of a narrow boat / canal boat, see photos for condition, i think rudder is missing?. model is 20cm in length 5cm high and 3cm wide..
